?This is an exciting event in our community, bringing together climbing enthusiasts from across the state for a night of spectacular imagery,? said Tom Adams, general manager at Backwoods. ?And, it allows us to support the REEL ROCK film tour as they use the outdoors as an adventurous backdrop for an educational and enticing screening.?
?
REEL ROCK founders Josh Lowell and Peter Mortimer have been producing and directing climbing and adventure films for over a decade, with devoted audiences around the world. Their work has been featured on NBC, NPR, and The New York Times, and has won a Sports Emmy Award, plus dozens of awards at international film festivals.
?
?This will be the third Reel Rock Tour at Rocktown and the second time we?ve partnered with Backwoods to present the Tour,? said Aaron Gibson, owner of Rocktown Climbing Gym in Oklahoma City.??The fit was good because Backwoods and Rocktown have close ties via climbing and our outdoor recreation community so we have a shared audiences.?
?
In 2011, REEL ROCK screened in over 280 locations world-wide, drew over 65,000 audience members, raised over $15,000 for non-profits, partnered with more than 150 retailers, university outing clubs and climbing gyms.
?
?The REEL ROCK Tour is about inspiration,? said Adams. ?The opportunity to bring the climbing community together at one event is a chance to renew friendships and trade information about trips and destinations. The presentation is about climbing at its extreme limits. The audience will come away from the event ready to set new limits for themselves and be inspired to go outside. We will also be raising funds for the Touchstone Youth Project at the event. The presentation starts at 8 p.m. Music, climbing, slack lining and festivities at 7 p.m.?
?
REEL ROCK film tour events are more than just film screenings.?The shows not only?bring climbers and outdoors lovers together to share the excitement of adventure films, it?also provides prize giveaways, appearances by top climbers, and fundraising for non-profit organizations.
?
In their seventh year, Sender Films and Big UP Productions are combining the biggest names in the sport with stories of pushing the limits of the great outdoors. From battling Himalayan peaks to scaling Spanish limestone, the REEL ROCK film tour promises to thrill the outdoor enthusiast from beginning to end.
?
?Rocktown is a great venue because we use the exterior of the facility to project the image. For the past six years I?ve run the?Renegade Picture Show where I show various films in an outdoor ?drive-in? movie style environment at the gym,? said Gibson. ?It?s in this context that I show the Reel Rock film tour which makes it a unique and social film experience. This year I created a much larger screen on the front of our adjoining building and now we have a nice grassy lawn on which to relax and enjoy the film.?
?
Guests can bring chairs or blankets for this outdoor presentation and should arrive at least 15 minutes early if buying tickets at the door, which will open at 6:30 p.m.
?
If needed, the Oklahoma City Backwoods store, 12325 N. May Avenue, will serve as an alternate weather screening location.
