Verizon-Redbox deal adds to online video choices (AP)

A new Internet streaming venture built around Redbox's DVD-rental kiosks adds to a crowded field of online video-viewing services dominated by Netflix.

In announcing the new venture Monday, Verizon Communications Inc. and Redbox's parent company, Coinstar Inc., did not say what types of content will be available or how much the service will cost when it starts in the second half of this year.

But executives did say the service will bundle streaming and DVDs, which Redbox currently rents through its ubiquitous red kiosks in supermarkets, drug stores and other places around the U.S.

It's likely that any plan from the new, still-unnamed venture will be cheaper than the minimum $16 a month that Netflix customers now pay to get both DVDs and online streaming access to a vast trove of movies, TV show episodes and original programming. It's also likely that the new venture won't have as extensive a selection as Netflix now does.

Companies such as Apple Inc. and Amazon.com Inc., as well as cable companies and TV stations themselves, already offer a variety of ways to catch TV show episodes and movies using Internet-connected devices.

Here are details on some of them:

? Amazon's Instant Video

Amazon's service offers thousands of movies and TV show episodes for online rental. Rental prices are generally $1 to $5. There is no monthly subscription plan, so this option is best if you're looking for an a la carte plan that lets you pick what you want to watch.

Amazon offers free streaming of some of its content to members of its $79-per-year Prime program, which also offers free two-day shipping and discounts on next-day shipping.

With Amazon, you can stream movies and shows on computers or on TV sets using a compatible, Internet-connected device such as a Blu-ray player or a set-top box from the likes of Sony, Panasonic, TiVo or Logitech.

? Apple iTunes

Renting movies through Apple's iTunes is another pay-per-view option to access the latest movies or TV shows. You can rent regular or high-definition flicks and watch them on an iPhone, iPad, computer or TV set using an Apple TV set-top box.

Apple lets you rent first-run, high-definition movies the day they come out on DVD for $5 each, though most movies cost $3 or $4. TV shows are generally $1. You can watch rentals for a day or two from when you start playing them.

As with Amazon, renting movies through Apple is a good option if you want the latest releases as soon as possible.

? Blockbuster

The on-demand service from this movie rental pioneer lets customers rent or buy movies and TV shows and watch them through their TV, Blu-ray player, digital video recorder, mobile phone or other gadget. There are no monthly fees.

Renting ranges from fee for a small amount of content to "$2.99 or less" and "$3 or higher" depending on the movie or show.

Separately, Blockbuster also offers access to its (at)Home service for customers who sign up for satellite-TV services from Dish Network Corp., its parent company. The (at)Home service includes streaming movies as well as DVDs by mail. It is included for three months for new Dish customers who sign up for the service. After that, it's as low as $10 a month.

? Cable

Cable TV providers such as Comcast Corp. and Time Warner Cable Inc. offer on-demand options to their monthly subscribers. Time Warner charges $3 or less for older movies, more for new releases. Other cable TV companies have similar pricing. Movies are sometimes free, including those that come with a subscription to HBO or other premium channels.

Of course, you need monthly cable service, which generally runs about $70 per month.

? Hulu and Hulu Plus

The service owned by the parent companies of broadcasting networks ABC, NBC and Fox offers thousands of TV show episodes and movies to its viewers.

Besides a free option, Hulu Plus subscribers can pay $8 per month for more content, high-definition viewing and access on the iPad and newer-model iPhones, as well as video game consoles and high-end TV sets from Samsung, Sony or others.

Hulu's content skews more toward TV shows than movies, though both are available. It's a good option for those looking to watch shows such as the "Daily Show," "Family Guy" or "The Office."

Both Hulu and Hulu Plus show advertisements, though on Hulu Plus there are movies available without commercial interruption. Hulu is also delaying the availability of some TV episodes on its free service.

? Vudu, from Wal-Mart

Walmart.com offers streaming movies and TV shows through the website Vudu.com, generally for $2 to $6. Many movies are available for streaming a la carte, the same day they come out on DVD. There are no monthly subscription plans.

GOLD BEACH, Ore. (AP) ? Three mushroom pickers lost six nights in the rugged forest of southwest Oregon with no food considered eating their dog, and used the screen on their dead cellphone and the blade of a sheath knife to flash a signal at the helicopter pilot who found them.

Dan Conne said Sunday from his hospital bed in Gold Beach that he and his wife and son spent the nights huddled in a hollow log with nothing to eat, and considered sacrificing their pit bull, Jesse, for food.

"She's that good a dog, she'd have done it, too," Conne said.

A volunteer helicopter pilot looking outside the search area Saturday spotted Dan and Belinda Conne, both 47, along with 25-year-old Michael, on the edge of a deep ravine in tall timber. They were about 10 miles northeast of the town of Gold Beach, roughly 330 miles south-southwest of Portland.

"The wife had the Blackberry and I had the knife," Dan Conne told The Associated Press. "I kept flashing. The wife said, 'You're blinding them.' But I wanted to make sure they seen us. I wasn't taking no chance."

The three had given up hope and thought they were going to die when rescuers came.

"None of us thought we were coming out of there," he said.

While lost, the cold and hungry family could see search helicopters and airplanes flying low and slow overhead, but they couldn't get the pilots' attention through the thick, coastal forest vegetation.

When they were found, the Connes were just five football fields from a road, and a mile from their Jeep.

The three were airlifted to a Gold Beach hospital, where they stayed overnight.

Dan Conne hurt his back, and Belinda Conne had hypothermia, Curry County Sheriff John Bishop said. All three were hungry, and enjoyed their potato soup and sandwiches at the hospital.

Belinda and Dan Conne were discharged Sunday. Their son, who suffered frostbite, hypothermia and a sprained ankle, remained in the hospital for more treatment.

The family was spotted by Jackson County Commissioner John Rachor, spending his first day searching for them in his own helicopter with Curry County Sheriff's Lt. John Ward.

Rachor had been up two hours and decided to go outside the search area, heading uphill from where the family parked their Jeep, instead of down.

"We couldn't find anything in the obvious places, so we decide to go to the not-obvious places," he said. "I kind of think outside the box on these things sometimes, and it pays off."

Rachor is the same pilot who found a San Francisco family lost in a snowstorm in 2006 just 35 miles from where he found the Connes. In 2006, Rachor flew Kati Kim and her two young daughters to safety after spotting them near their car. James Kim died of hypothermia trying to hike out for help.

On Saturday, Rachor saw a movement on the edge of a deep ravine in tall timber. A man in tan bib overalls was waving his arms. Ward marked the spot on his GPS and called the Coast Guard for a helicopter to winch the family out. He also called a nearby ground team to give them immediate aid, then flew back to Gold Beach for fuel.

"The searchers were with us within 20 minutes of the first copter that found us," Dan Conne said. "There must have been nine or 10 of them. They just kept coming out of that brush. lt was just a real happy feeling, 'cause we knew we wasn't going to die out there."

The Coast Guard lifted Michael and Dan Conne out first, then returned for Belinda. The dog walked out with searchers.

Dan Conne said the three got lost Sunday after going back for a second load of hedgehog and black trumpet mushrooms, which they sell to a local buyer. It was Belinda's day off from her motel maid job.

They left their four Chihuahua dogs at the fifth-wheel trailer at the campground where they live, and drove to first one spot, then returned for peanut butter sandwiches and went to a new spot they were not familiar with.

In the heat of the afternoon, they left their jackets at the end of a gravel road. Their last meal was a peanut butter sandwich each on Sunday.

When they didn't come home the first night, the camp host alerted authorities. Searchers hit the ground Monday. Wednesday, searchers found the Connes' Jeep.

The Connes spent the first night in rain, sheltering under a pile of brush. The second day, they built a lean-to, but it fell down. Heeding the advice of another mushroom picker, Michael Conne hiked uphill to try to see where they were, but returned cold, wet, and with no better idea where they were. Trying to find their way out downhill, they discovered a hollow log they could all squeeze into, and they stayed there, covering the opening with bark and hiking downhill to a creek to fill plastic bags with water. When it rained, they tried to plug the leaks with bits of wood.

"It was pretty tight in there," Dan Conne said. "I'm sure a bear would have been real comfortable in there."

They were never able to start a fire, having no matches or lighters.

"Every other time we been out there, every one of us had lighters, except this time," Dan Conne said. "Rubbing sticks together? That don't work. Slamming rocks together? Only on TV.

"There was a lot of debating, back and forth, whether to stay or go. Mikey couldn't walk. If we had to leave him, that wasn't an option. Belinda was down. I could barely walk. We just didn't know which way to go."

Searchers found a trail and a few hopeful clues along the way: a can of Pepsi, mushroom-picking buckets, a few pieces of clothing. But not the people they were searching for.

At one point, the Connes spotted a search helicopter close enough for them to see Bishop riding inside, but their attempt to signal went unseen.

After getting out of the hospital, Dan Conne picked up Jesse and the Chihuahuas, which had been cared for at the animal shelter after the rescue. Jesse jumped and danced around at seeing him again.

"I don't think we could have done it," Belinda Conne said of eating their pet. "I probably would have starved to death first."

Dan Conne said he tried to eat a hedgehog mushroom while in the forest but found it "nasty." He gave away the mushrooms he collected.

"I don't ever want to see one of these again," he said.

Nini Life: What kind of Girls a man can face in his life?

What I am looking in My Dream Girl
post by guest writer isloooboy

Read his Recent Articles
http://www.triond.com/users/isloooboy

Let me clarify one thing first, I am not an ?average guy? or ?bad looking? but I am a cute,
beautiful, charming and have very handsome personality. I am popular in girls around
me from the day one of my adult age. Today I am going to share about my ?Dream Girl?,
what I love to see, wish and hope she has in her?
But, first let me discuss about different kind of Girls, a man face in his life can we? So let
start?..
I don?t know about others but I can share my own experience with you and as per my
little knowledge there are four kinds of Girls a man can face in his entire life.
Teenage or Childish Girl
This kind of girls are mostly coming into the era of dreams and every smiling guy attract
them so they think they are the most beautiful young lady in the world so they start
connecting with him without understanding the real thoughts behind his look. If you give
them a smile for any reason or without any reason they will start believing and
considering that you like them and they will start dreaming a romantic relation with you.
If you ever tried to cash their emotions than you will succeed without any problem but
than your real exam will start from that moment because they will never try to hide their
relationship with you and they will start displaying that you have relation with her and
will feel proud among their friends.
Everything in life hurts this kind of girl, who cries a lot, every innocent comment or
criticism will upset her so avoid this kind of girl because if you are dating one you will
have to spend all the time apologizing even if you didn't make any mistake
Little Experienced but moody Girl
This is the second stage of girls when they are trying their best to come out of dreamy
world. Due to having some recent bad experiences they start behaving like, ?I don?t care?
so I call them moody girls because they still lack real experience and maturity in them. If
some guy who likes them and try to show his likeness to them, there first response will be
the same which I have mentioned above, ?I do not care about you? so get lost. If you are
the one who have similar kind of girl whom you love or like, than you have to show real
patience so she can start realizing about your true feelings. You have to understand their
fears of recent past and allow them to take their time to start believing in you and your
feelings.
Their negative part is they will put you on a chase which some times take extra long time
and most guys prefer to stop chasing them. So if you have enough patience than follow
they otherwise do not go near them because it will make them to think more negatively
and will push them towards loneliness.
?Mature and Realistic Girl
This kind of girls always stays in their skin and never pretends something else but always
shows their real face. They never follow unrealistic dreams neither they pick wrong
signals but always judge before taking any move. They never show their real feelings
unless they think you are a trust worthy to share their point of view with you.
Most of us always get caught in the magic of their hidden and mystical layers because we
love to explore them by our human nature of exploring. You will find them always
caring, listening and they never argue you without any solid reason. You can trust on
them and share your feelings, likeness and dislike without any fear and most importantly
you can introduce them to your family with confidence.
Wife and Your Life Partner
These kinds of girls are those who will remain with you till the last breath of your life.
They will take good care of you if you also look after them with honesty and remain loyle
to them. If once they found you laughing with anyone else instead of them than they have
the ability to make your life hell, so be careful and do not go towards any stupidity.
These girls are the one who you must love and provide everything in life because she is
mother of your kids. She will take really good care of you and your home and will bring
real calmness in your life.
But let me clear one thing again, above mentioned everything is totally in your hand
because what you have to give in response is just Love, Honesty and fulfillment of their
needs ? so be always be there when they need you most.

My Dream Girl
I am not really looking for an attractive girl but one whom I can show to my family with
proud because for me being attractive is a secondary feature but what I always prefer is
inner beauty. I hate those girls who always seem to be ready to show their own desire but
I prefer those who are smart but they remain simple because I like simplicity.
I am not choosy which means, height, color, skinny or fat is not my problem but must be
disciplined enough to presentable. I love to share my views without any fear and expect
my dream girl will also be like me and she also be able to discuss on all kind of topics
with command although it is not the priority for me. Most important part which I wish is,
she must make a healthy and good relationship with my mother by caring her, listening
her because listening is the very important aspect for any relation. I am looking a more
mature, friendly, trusting and caring girl, so it doesn?t matter me if she is beautiful or not
because what I am looking is inside beauty which will remain forever.

One in four people with debt problems need a financial debt ...

According to a recent survey by the Institute of Financial Planning, as many as one in four British people are not setting themselves a clear budget they need to stick to each month and most would benefit from a debt management plan.

The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) has warned that failing to have a financial plan could lead to serious debt problems, especially if you are struggling to make ends meet already. This debt could soon become unmanageable, especially as wage growth is slow, inflation is increasing and unemployment is also rising.

All of these factors could make 2012 a very difficult year for many families, particularly the 6.2 million households which the CCCS identified as ?financially vulnerable? in its recent Debt and Household Incomes report.

The charity?s director of external affairs, Delroy Corinaldi, said:

?It?s never too late to put your finances in order. Setting a clear budget now is the best way to help withstand the financial headwinds in 2012 and beyond, and will leave you in a far better position to cope with any difficulties you may face in the future.?

In another survey carried out by YouGov recently, it was revealed that 29 per cent of people think their best hope of improving their financial situation and clearing debt problems is to win the lottery. Financial experts warn that it is incredibly foolish to leave your financial future to chance in this way, especially as the odds of actually winning the lottery jackpot are around 1 in 14 million.
