[Opinion] Nobody wins If Luke Campbell Can?t Coach High School Football

Luther Campbell and my high school football coach taught me a lot about life and women. Maybe not politically correct things about women, but one of my first encounters with the philosophies of handling women inside the bedroom and outside the bedroom centered on Uncle Luke?s raps and DVD?s and my high school football coach?s locker room talk. My head coach introduced me to the infamous ??four eff?s?? that every man learns from an older male figure: Find ?em, fool ?em, f*ck ?em and leave them. Uncle Luke introduced me to the ??f*ck ?em?? part. High school football coaches or coaches in general, are not perfect people. They come with flaws and many times, unpopular philosophies. Luke Campbell and my high school football coach were one in the same; so what?s the big deal about Uncle Luke coaching high school football?

In recent news, Luther Campbell, the man that taught Hip-Hop how to fuck, has turned in his microphone for a headset and clipboard. Gone are the crass raps and porn DVD?s,, coach Luke will be entering his fourth season as a high school assistant coach, only if Florida?s Education Practices Commission will let him. For the past three seasons (two at Miami Central and one at Northwestern), Campbell has coached using a short term certification that expires at the end of the 2012-13 school years. To continue coaching in Miami-Dade County after that, Campbell will need a permanent certificate.

Examples of ??good moral character?? didn?t stop former Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino from lying to his wife, community, and employer when he lied about the fine details of his April 2012 motorcycle accident. Oh, and that?s not Petrino?s first example of using poor judgment and poor moral character. During Petrino?s tenure as head coach at Louisville, Petrino, secretly applied for the Auburn position. He also left the Cardinals to coach the Atlanta Falcons, a job that he left in the middle of the night after he heard the news of Michael Vick?s departure from the team for dog fighting. Rick Pitino, one of the shining examples of coaching excellence in NCAA basketball, fucked his co-workers wife in a restaurant; an act that clearly violated the acts of moral depravity or misconduct that damages the university?s reputation clause that should?ve led to his firing. Clearly, you say Rick Pitino coach his Louisville Cardinals to the Final Four last year. Yea, ??good moral character?? is what coaching is made of.

We?re all aware of Luke?s past. He?s done music and videos that would make most of his fans cringe now that some of them probably have children now. But, should that hang over his head forever when the man is clearly doing something good for not only himself, but his community as well? We all know that Nino Brown sold drugs and gave out turkeys on Thanksgiving, but Luke ain?t doing this to get brownie points from the ?hood. He?s doing this because this is his idea of giving back to his community and using the fame he got for doing something ??negative?? into something positive for his people. Miami Northwestern is a school that isn?t receiving the help that it needs; why should a man that wants to help by donating his money and time not be allowed to? Coach Luke deserves to be certified. Not because of the money he donates, but because the man cares about these kids. Bobby Petrino didn?t care about his group of kids enough to jeopardize his career and their upcoming season by getting fired. The sad part is, Petrino is probably going to be a coach again before Luke. Now, where?s the moral good in that?
